Is senior placement really free?

Yes, my help finding a place is free to your family. The community your family member moves into pays me a referral fee. The care itself isn't free, and you should know who pays me before you trust my advice.

How the money works

The community pays, after the move.

When your family member moves into a place I helped you find, and stays a certain amount of time, that place pays me a referral fee. You never get a bill from me for placement.

Oregon requires me to tell you, in writing, how I'm paid before I refer you anywhere. I tell you which places pay me and which don't, before we tour anything.

Does that bend the advice?

It can. Here's how I keep it straight.

  • I recommend places that don't pay me when they're the right fit.
  • I see every place in person before I recommend it.
  • I check every place's state record and tell you what's in it.
  • No place hears about your family unless you say yes, each time.

Some big referral websites pass your phone number to several places at once. I don't. My full disclosures →

Before you work with anyone

Questions to ask a placement agent.

  • Are you registered with the State of Oregon? (Look them up at ltcr.oregon.gov/Agents. I'm #2443.)
  • Which places pay you, and which don't?
  • Have you been inside this place yourself?
  • Will you share my information with anyone without asking me first?
  • Do you work with adult foster homes, or only bigger communities?
