Independent senior placement and care planning in the greater Portland area. Help finding a place to move, or help staying home, for you or your family member.

Most people start with a quick call. Sometimes I can point you in the right direction and tell you that you don't need me yet. Sometimes we set up an in-person meeting and go from there.

Care Planning

Help staying home, or working out what’s needed.

A written plan for your situation: what's needed now, what's coming, what it costs, and who to call for each piece. Then I stay on your team as long as you want me.

The right people When the plan needs in-home care, an elder law attorney, benefits help, or movers, I connect you with people I know and trust, and I stay in the loop so nothing falls through the cracks.

Paid by your family, with no facility money in it. The plan answers to you and nobody else.

With care planning, your family pays me directly, and every price is listed on this site, so you'll know what you're paying before anything starts.

  • Calls, texts, and questions are never metered.
  • Billable work is quoted as a total, and you say yes first.
Tom McCahan

Who you're calling.

I come from the home care industry. My job was going into people's homes, assessing what they needed, setting up the care plan, working with their case managers, and organizing the people around them to make the care work. Home care was the only thing I could offer, and I felt that limit. I started Local Ties because I kept meeting families with very little information and no idea where to go next, and I wanted to help with the full range of what they need, not just one piece. That's the gap I'm here to fill.

Whether you're planning ahead or you're in the middle of it right now, that's fine. Call me. We'll start from where you are.

Start with a call.

It's free, about 20 minutes. I'll tell you which path fits you. If all you need is a little direction, I'll give it to you on the call, no charge. And if you don't need me yet, I'll say so and point you to the right people.

Calling me doesn't put you on a list. No community calls you unless you pick it.
